Sustainability
Growing up in Indiana I didn't have access to many resources on sustainability & I didn't really know what it was. As I started working on my fashion brand I discovered the term SLOW FASHION & realized that I wanted to be a part of this community & spread the information to others.
I want my brand to be a place to share information on sustainability, ethics, transparency & more in order to spread awareness of these issues that are important to me & impact the place that we all call home.
As an introduction I wanted to begin by giving some definitions that are important to understand.
CARBON FOOTPRINT:
The total greenhouse gas emissions caused by you or an event, organization, service, place or product expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent.
COMPOST:
A mixture of various decaying organic substances, such as dead leaves or manure, used for fertilizing soil.
ETHICALLY SOURCED/PRODUCED:
Ensuring products are created through sustainable and ethical methods in respect to people and rights as well as environmental issues and animals.
GREENWASHING:
The process of conveying a false impression or providing misleading information about how a company's products are more environmentally sound. Greenwashing is considered an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into believing that a company's products are environmentally friendly.
SLOW FASHION:
The opposite of fast fashion, advocating an awareness of the creation processes and resources to make clothing and creating clothing/products with this awareness (focusing on sustainability and ethics as well as the process and resources involved).
SUSTAINABILITY:
The ability to meet or maintain the needs of living in ways that protect the natural resources and ecological balance in order to avoid the depletion of these items. Sustainability specifically focuses within the categories of human, social, economic & environmental.
ZERO WASTE:
The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health.
Please Note: These are all definitions that I have created using reliable resources
in order to give the most information in the simplest way.
